problem installing sata 80gb seagate hard drive


i have a motherboard msi k9vgm-v built-in sata and a 80gb seagate sata my problem installing mandriva 2006 can't detect 80gb seagate sata connection please help me

Mandriva 2006 is a legacy distro - it will not well support newer hardware.
In your BIOS, you need to set the SATA controller to it's "legacy" or "ide" mode.
At the boot: prompt, you may need to pass "all-generic-ide" to the kernel.

Best practice is to use the latest Mandriva - 2008 - or similarly recent distro.
