Problem installing Mandrake 9.2 A.S.A.P.

I was trying to install Mandrake 9.2 on a windows 98 and during the install i told it to wipe out windows and all of the stuff on the hard drive, now i dont know if it completly did that or not but right after that it said a problme occerd i forgot to right the thing it said but anyways i tried it a few more times and it was working so i had to restart my comp only i didnt know how to so I hard booted the system. Now thats never a good thing but anyways it was starting to start up like it always did but then nothing happend then it went to a black screen and told me to type in the command. Also the cd drive now wont open and I cant get my cd out to put it back in to try to get the comp to read the cd again. Does anyone know what command I should put in to get it to start installation again? If so it would be a big help. If not is there any other way to fix the problem. Thanks!

Was the cd still in when you rebooted? If you, you booted from the cd. When you get to the command line, to eject a cd, run 'eject'. The cd will be also unlocked during reboot (you can remove it for example when you enter BIOS).

There is a small hole somewhere in the front of a CD drive where you can poke in a paper clip. This works (I think) even when the machine is turned off.

Yes, but it's not safe for all drives. But if other methods fail...

Ok i had to take the cd out by means of the little whole. I think for some reason the cd drive is dead thats why it wouldnt open. I'm not sure what brand it is. Do u guys know how I can get windows back up untill i can get the cd rom drive working again so i can put linux on? Thanks

Is your cdrom LG? If so, read this thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=108472 and download firmwire update...

To make a backup you'll need to move your disk to another machine...it looks like fastest method.
