Hello,
I am a total newbie to linux and would appreciate someones advice. Basically last night i formatted my PC and deleted all partitions, i then wanted to install Red Hat Enterprise 5 as my only OS. But have encounted problems. Basically i get grub error 21.... So i deleted all partitions and tried using Mandriva Same problem also same problem with Ubuntu What would be causing this problem? I have had to resort to installing Windows XP...... and i really wanna learn Linux From what i understand Grub error 21 means it basically cannot find the drive. The specs of my PC are Core2 1.86 3GB RAM 400GB IDE HDD ASUS MB etc PLEASE HELP!!!! |
What kind of hard drive - SATA PATA something else? Are you using a RAID?
|
IDE HDD, No RAID
its just a single 400GB IDE HDD |
How far into the installation process are you getting? And what was the configuration before you deleted all partitions?
Please provide as much detail as possible. Hunch: Machine is not booting from CD, and old GRUB can't find any partitions |
I can complete the installation process
after the reboot it gets stuck on GRUB b4 hand i was running Vista with one single 400GB partition Thanks. |
doesnt error 21 mean its booting off of the wrong parition or is that error 22?
|
Does anyone else have any thoughts?
|
Any more help people???
