i'm getting the same problem, the only unusual peripheral i have is my ADSL mode, which i've tried unplugging, and there's no where in my bios i can see to disable plug and play.

any ideas?

How much ram do you have and how fast is your processor? I had the same problem with my RedHat 9.0 install, try using RedHat 8.0 or Mandrake 9.1, the Mandrake switch worked for me. Also how old is your hard drive it may be going out.
