problem installing kernel source package

I want to instal the Kernel source package so that I can build a custom kernel.

I installed Red Hat 8 a couple of days ago (with kernel 2.4.18-14)and found that the kernel source package was not installed. I was told it was on the CD's.
I found kernel-source-2.4.18-14.i386.rpm on Red Hat Cd 2,which i presume is the file I need.

To install it,I was told that I need to type the following:

rpm -Uhv kernel-source-2.4.18-14.i386.rpm .
However, when I do so I get the following message in the shell:

warning: kernel-source-2.4.18-14.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature:NOKEY,key ID db42a60e
error:failed dependencies:
gcc >= 2.96.98 is needed by kernel source 2.4.18-14

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and what that errror message is trying to tell me?

thanks,
Ludwig
