Problem installing a game

I am trying to install Super Maryo CHronicles, just to get the hang of installing stuff. I have been having problems with this from the outset. Whenevr I try to run ./configure, it reaches a point where it displays the error 'cannot find libpng files'. I think this was a part of the SDL. But I tried finding these librariies in the repositories on my suse cds and even on www.libsdl.org, but havent found them. Where can I get these libraries?

Its still not working.
Here are the last 3 lines of .\configure in terminal:

checking for SDL-version>=1.2.0...yes
checking for IMG_LoadPNG_RW in -lSDL_image...no
configure:error: Unable to find the SDL_image library with PNG support

I browsed to the /usr/lib directory and found the following files which I think are (?) relevant, among others:

libSDL-1.1.so.0
libSDL-1.2.so.0
libSDL-1.2.so.0.11.0
libSDLimage-1.2.so.0
libSDLimage-1.2.so.0.1.4

I checked in the Software Manager and searched for libpng, which is installed too.

What could be the problem?

Also, what does 1.2.so.0.1.4 in libSDLimage-1.2.so.0.1.4 indicate?

Sorry, I was unable to find anything.

And I think .so is something to do with Fortran 90 or shared library function or something. Maybe it's both, I don't know.

Is that the ./configure from the game you are trying to install?

John

Probably you have to install also the development packages, e.g. libpng-devel or SDL_image-devel.

yea. i browse to the directory where I have unpacked the archive, then I run sh ./autogen.sh (theres a file autogen.sh in the folder) and after this it asks me to run ./configure
all these steps ae outlined in the installation readme that came in the archive.

I have just read that PNG support must be compiled into the SDL_image.

Here is where I read about it, maybe there is some useful information for you there.
