Problem Initializing Partitions
120mHz Pentium
3.2gig HD 16MB RAM Debain GNU/Linux v3.0 "woody" After creating two partitions (one 32MB swap and the other for the root), I have trouble initializing them. No matter what setup I use for the partition table, I always get an "Invalid Argument" error when attempting to initialize the partitions. |

Okay this is not the PC I mainly use. I'm merely using the one stated above to experiment with Linux. Thanks for the help, by the way.

How did you create the partitions? Did you put a filesystem on them afterwards? Try:
mke2fs -j /dev/hdxx Where hdxx is the partition(s) you created. To view them, use: fdisk -l (FDISK -L lowercase) @PionexUser: I was under the impression your PC doesn't even boot from CD? ;) Just a word to the wise though: Try not to respond to the questions with 0 replies unless you've got constructive ideas for them. Quite a few users of the board will search for questions with 0 replies, and if your reply is "Sure is a nice day" then that just took away (probably more than) over half of the views their thread would have had. It's just a curteousy I too had to succumb to ( I used to crack some good jokes around here :D I also used to give some really bad advice, and it was the first response! ). Just a suggestion of course ;) Cool |
Well dbootstrap loads cfdisk as the partition software. However, I am wondering if it will be better if I use fdisk. How do you change to fdisk in the middle of the installation?
|
It's likely already there:
/sbin/fdisk -l Check the path, if not, you could install it at any point and go from there. Being Debian, I've only installed it once (once was more than enough for me ;) ) so I am not really qualified to answer that all that great for ya. If you'd like I'll be happy to move your post to the Debian forum where the Debian guru's live? Cool |
