Take my advice. Buy an external modem. What you have there is obviously a Winmodem, and they're virtually impossible to get working with Linux. I've been there and done that. I eventually gave in and got a normal external modem and got online.

Hope this helps.

dude there is only one kernel that supports wimodem ie
for example motorola
modem under linux , you have to check if the modem have a driver for unix
systems .. for motorola , it has a driver for linux with kernel2.4.5 . So if
you want to use your motorola modem under linux , you have to install
kernel2.4.5

Hi rjhm,

I had this very same problem, I went to linmodems.org, there was a link there to scan your modem to get all the specs. I then downloaded the driver for my modem, make sure you get the right kernel version. You should be able to just click on the file and it will bring up the screen to install it , just follow the instructions. The part that got me was you then have to go to a terminal prompt and type hcfpciconfig or probably hsppciconfig in your case. When I did this it told me to enter /dev/ttySCHFOon the device tab when using kppp. After two weeks of messing with my modem it finally worked. I hope this helps if not read the instructions on the linmodems page it should take you through it.
