have you had any warning messages while booting? Another way to get into X is to type startx from a command prompt. You may need to press ctrl+alt+f2 or alt+f2 to get to a command prompt.

also what video driver are you using?

if i type system-config-display it will give following o/p

couldn't start xserver on card 0
error, failed to start xserver

ever startx will give error
as fatal server error
no screens found

sounds like an xorg.conf problem. I dont use fedora but I have found a post on their forum that might help. Just remember that this issue can be remedied.

vinaytp:

from your words it appears you didn't have this trouble before: so does it mean you had gui before without any like problem? if so then your current problem is only a permission issue.

on terminal, at ~/ home directory:

vinaytp@host--$: sudo chmod ug+x ./.Xauthority <Enter>
(Please note the . dot before Xauthority, that's important)
<give password when asked>

then you are ready to startx:

vinaytp@host--$: startx

this should launch your X.
There are times when shutdowns can force deny execute mode on .Xauthority, I have faced this many times before and the cure I shared above have always worked.

I hope it can help.

Goodluck.

no its not working..but i changed video driver form intel to vesa in xorg.conf file

and i executed startx

now its showing the gui..of 600x480 resolution..all very big icons..and if i try to change the resolution using system-config-display...its telling resolution out of range even if i try to keep 800x600..
even i am not able to see the title bar of any window with the resolution of 600X480

whats the reason...
