problem connecting to messenger and ssh
Ok Im a newbie so please dont get mad i i ask a nonsense question, this is my question: i have a problem connecting to the messenger and secure shell, i have just intalled Debian(so i dont even know well where the files are), when i try to ceonnect to ssh it says "ssh: <name of the server>: Temporary failure in name resolution" so i ping it and it says "ping: unknown host <Host name>" i installed openssl, and another question some one tolme that the commando to see the daemons running was dpk(i dont remember well), would someone tell me how do i do that? thanks for any help

you could try connecting to your IP(if you are trying to connect to your own machine) or your loopback device (127.0.0.1). If you are having an issue connecting outside, try the server's IP, you seem to have an name problem ( problem with your DNS).
As for the messenger, what is it? |
i have loopback thats all right, my messenger i my instant messenger(msn), thx, and how do i chek my dns?

Try pinging google, for instance

that is www.google.com and then pinging some known IP (Like 64.179.4.146 for www.linuxquestions.org) If the later works, but not the first, it is an DNS issue.

thx i happens what you said,that was the problem, so probably is a DNS Problem, so i'm going to read about it thx for all the help
