Problem connecting internet on Reliance India Phone
Hello friends,
Can anyone help me out with connecting to internet through Reliance mobile on Linux.
Actually the Reliance Infocom (relianceinfo.com) site provides a beta version.... but when i
try downloading, after the download is complete when I try opening the file system gives me
a message that the file is corrupt or is not a correct gunzip file... If anyone have the
rconnect version downloaded with him... please forward it so that even I can use internet on
Linux on Reliance India Mobile.
Regards,

neosap...
I just came across your post. You might have an answer to your question by now, anyway, the file you downloaded from the reliance site fine. This is mostly because the .gz extension is missing on the file(happens when you download it on a windows machine)
make sure your file is like this...
"rconnect-cmdln-0.5.tar.gz"
gunzip it now or tar is with the -z option.
Hope this helps....
I also use a reliance connection BTW.
Jim

Hi tanurosy,
The rconnect file is available on the reliance web site..... anyway here is the link
http://relianceinfo.com/Infocomm/htm..._rconnect.html
for running rconnect you should have rconnect-cmdln-0.5.tar.gz file, at times when downloading this file in Windows the extention ".gz" is missing, so put the extention by using DOS prompt or Shell prompt. Once the fiie is in proper format....... then extract the file........ and execut rconnect.sh in the rconnect directory with the command "./rconnect" in teh rconnect directory.......... then the install programm will ask the model Type in the Model no. with exact case in which it is displayed...... then select the port where the rconnect cabel is connect to the PC..... e.g. "/dev/ttys0" if the mobile is connected on the first serial port on the PC.....
I think this process will help you installing rconnect on your process..... this is the most detaild explain which i can give..... If any further query or questions please feel free to ask them......

I know this response is coming to you very very late and as such you might have gotten an answer or moved on to something else. Never-the-less, your problem seems to be due to the fact that you have probably not taken a reliance package that permits net use. As far as I know there are only 2 packages for internet use that Reliance offers and if you don't have either, then you can't access the net OR you haven't paid up all your bills and your phone line has been temporarily disconnected. These are the two scenarios I remember when "Data calls not available" msg used to come on the phone screen.

neo: read linuxjacky's post. I can't seem to find a copy of my reliance rconnect package and neither is it available anymore for downloading from the reliance site. If you still have your copy can you upload it at megauploads.com or any of the free file hosting sites and post the link here? This would help linuxjacky.
