problem compiling extundelete-0.2.0
I'm trying to compile extundelete to bail myself out of my accidental deletion of much data. Unfortunately, I am still also a rookie when it comes to command line Linux and "compiling" things. I can say that after downloading and extracting the extundelete-0.2.0 tarball, I ran "./configure" with the following result.
/extundelete-0.2.0> ./configureI looked at the log and found the following. /extundelete-0.2.0> less config.logI googled the above phrases for a few hours and managed to figure out that I needed to install some compiler like gcc and all its dependencies, which I have. Unfortunately, the result has not changed. I still get "C++ compiler cannot create executables." And the config.log did not change after installing gcc and dependencies. It appears far simpler than the other examples of config.log that I found in my searches, so I imagine/hope I'm missing something basic. I don't see any "errors" in the log, just the "unknown" values, which everyone seems to have. Why can't my C++ compiler create executables? I tried rebooting and more googling, but I'm afraid I will have to relearn all the fundamentals of Linux, which I would like to do eventually, but in the meantime, I'll be forever grateful for any benevolence bestowed by those of you in the know. I'm running Fedora 14 if that matters. Many thanks, Chris |
I recently got involved in a thread here about this. I also had issues compiling under Fedora 15, but then found they had a package, so just used that. See if it's in the F14 repos - unlikely probably.
You need to install C++, but then it failed again - didn't take note of what with I must admit (I was only doing a test, so didn't much care). Maybe you could burn F15 and run that as a liveCD and install the package there - should work o.k. |
Wow, I could've sworn I used yum to check for extundelete. Turns out I did not, apparently. Thank you! Now to see if extundelete can perform miracles...
