Problem closing ubuntu 11.04 linux wireless, now firefox won't connect

I am a fairly new linux user and I have a problem between firefox and linux.

I closed my wireless connection on my ubuntu 11.04 linux the other day and then tried to connect firefox and it won't connect.

HELP, Help, help. what do I do???

thezerodragon 10-16-2011 11:10 PM

Hi CajunChief,

Can you please provide some more detail as to what exactly you did? What do you mean by "closed your wireless connection"? Can you open a terminal and type
Code:

iwconfig
and post for us what you get? Thanks.

Also, just as a side note, this sort of thing

It seems like your wireless card and network are both detected, do you have the right network key?

cajunchief 10-19-2011 10:00 PM

The proper key

ZERODRAGON,

Yes the key is correct. I know that it is. I can't get the firefox browser to find the wireless internet. :(

IN unbuntu 11.04 (now 11.10) I had clicked on the up-arrow/down-arrow button area and selected the Disconnect option under
the "wireless" area. and now I have no wireless.

can you reconnect/undo what you did? Can you see your network in the list of available wireless networks?

I can get the wireless to connect. However when I open up the firefox browser I get the following message:

"SERVER NOT FOUND"

when it is looking for my www.google.com website.

thezerodragon 10-20-2011 08:43 PM

Okay, maybe the problem exists with Firefox. can you tell me what happens if you try:
Code:

ping -c 4 www.google.com

cajunchief 10-21-2011 04:48 AM

here are my ping results

According to your ping results, you are connected to the internet. When you open up Firefox, what exactly is the error message? Do you get it for every site you visit?
