PROBLEM- cannot execute binary file

I was following the instructions in http://www.cstrike-planet.com/tutori...nstall-CS-16/6 and got up to the part which stated:

If all goes well you should now have the hldsupdatetool.bin in the srcds directory. Now we change the permission of hldsupdatetool.bin so we can execute it and extract the contents from hldsupdatetool.bin
Code:
chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin
./hldsupdatetool.bin

when I do that I get:

hldsupdatetool.bin cannot execute binary file

I have absolutely no idea where to go from here, any ideas?

If it helps- I'm running Yellow Dog Linux 5.0.2 on my sony PS3

Your link is broken, but see if you can extract this and execute it.

Sorry- fixed the link...

so i downloaded it... but EXECUTE? like- how? I extracted it to the HLDS folder.. i've moved on to:

Now that you have the steam binary file, Type the following command to begin installing CS 1.6

Code:
chmod +x steam
./steam -command update -game cstrike -dir .

but now i get the same binary problem here

Yeah, it does...too bad I didn't read it first. You have to get a binary for your architecture (don't know what the PS3 is). That one worked on my machine, but mine's an x86_64.

I did download a binary though-

Then try to run ./hldsupdatetool.bin again. If that does not work, or you do not have root privileges you can download the binary file we have available:

Code:
wget http://www.cstrike-planet.com/dls/steam

do i also need a different one for

./steam -command update -game cstrike -dir .

?

Yeah, but a binary is built for a particular environment. A PowerPC binary won't work on an x86_64 machine and vice versa. Doesn't matter that both are using Linux as the OS. Similarly, a Windows binary won't run on an x86 machine running Linux. Did you download a binary for the PS3 environment that you are try to install in?

hmm, maybe you just need to set the file "executable"...

eh... sry... ignore. I overlooked...

That's what chmod +x does and the OP stated that (s)he executed that command.

ok, on PC there is no problem but as weibullguy said, you can't use this binary on PS3, no matter what OS you're running! you have to find PS3 binary (if is any)
