problem burning DVDs

I am trying to make a copy of a DVD and when I open Brasero it says "impossible to find a format for the temporary image". Also. Movie Player will not open the video saying "could not read from resource". Any ideas on how to go about fixing either or both problems? (I don't know if this could have any significance, but the DVD is part of a telivision series, so it has 4 TV episodes on it.)

I believe you can't simply copy dvd-video discs, since they are encrypted. I've never done it myself, but I googled a bit, you may want to try this: http://k9copy.sourceforge.net

For reading, check VLC, it's a great all-in-one player (and streamer)
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Depending on your distro, you may have packages of those programs (ubuntu has them both)
Hope that helps

I have had alot of luck with a program called alcohol 120% it has never failed me and I have burned movies before also just try what the other guy suggested also VLC it plays pretty much any codec created without any updates for totem you can upgrade it with a xine backend that worked for me. I don't have any experience with brasero so can't help you with it.

Thanks. That did help, though it also leads to a problem. About 1-2% through the copying process, K9copy crashes. I clicked "backtrack" and this is what came up:

Any more solutions?

PS: Reguarding Alcohol, are there any free versions, or just the $45 version?

Hey, I think I might have found a way to do it using a combination of programs but I'm not sure. I'll be sure to let you know weather or not it works. Either way, Thanks for all the help and advice.

Well, that was quick. It doesn't work, so we're back to K9copy or Alcohol.

Do you have libdvdcss2 installed to allow you to read encrypted DVDs?
