Prob with XP logon after Linux install

Help (please?)

Just installed RH 8 onto a separte HDD from XP, intending to dual boot. This all worked fine, grub kicks in etc and i can boot to Linux fine.

BUT.... When I boot to XP it reached the logon screen fine, but hangs on 'Loading personal settings'..... I have no idea why, since installed on completely separate drive....

Running linux on HDD which is Slave to XP on primary IDE cable...

Anyone got any clues??

Its probably trying to read the Linux hard drive and partitions which can cause this especially if you parititioned Linux with ext3 filesystem.. etc.

ok...

so how do i rescue my windows disk?? I basically, i'm guessing.... want to get windows to format d: drive.

BUT - grub is on c: drive, so i'm worried that it will all end up like a pile of poo?

Log onto RH as root

Open a text editor (Start, Accessories, Text Editor)

Open /etc/grub.conf

Locate the XP area and before the rootnoverify line, add these two lines:

unhide (hd0)
hide (hd1)

In the Linux area, before the root line, add these two lines:

unhide (hd1)
hide (hd0)

Save the file and reboot your computer. According to the Grub manual, this should work. If it doesn't, post here again and we'll try something else.
