Hi all!

I hate to burden you guys with this, but I have searched and searched to no avail. (the samba doc are a little overwelming).

The situation is as follows:

I am have a redhat 9.0 os in the server room.
I would like to print to a printer (dymo label printer) directly connected to a windows xp prof machine.

The printer is shared and connected to the com1 port.

I have tried using the graphical tool in rh9 but it does not pick it up. Meaning when I use the auto search and configure it does not show up in the window. When I try to enter it manually, it does the take the info i put in.

Printing for unix is configured on the xp box.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am actually looking for a procedure to tackle this problem.

open your web browser and go to http://localhost:631

then click on printers=>then add printer. then is going to ask your for user name and password, make sure u type root for username with the appropriate password. enter a name , location, and description of your printer and click continue. in the next screen you need to select printer via samba. next you will need to enter the uri , the following is an expample

smb:/usernameassword@Server/Printername; if i remember correctly, username is the username on the xp machine, password of the same user, Server is the name of the xp box where the printer is attached. hope this helps,
