Question Printing Problems in RH 8.0

I am Running Redhat 8 (2.4.18-17.8.0) on an IBM Thinkpad A20m. The installation was from commercial media and I selected a custom install because I wanted kernel source and headers on the laptop. My only complaint (other than UTF-8) not being universal to applications like acrobat reader, is that I am having some printing problems. I am using lprng printing and if I try to print from ggv I get nothing and if I print from Evolution and the email has any HTML in it I crash evolution (maybe the two issues are unrelated). I can print from every other applicaiton just fine including from the command line. Evolution can print to PDF without generating a problem either.

Thanks,

Jack

Jack,

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problems you describe on both a Compaq presario and Dell 8100. Latest updates of RedHat 8.0 on each one. Different printers, different networks, etc. so it seems like GGV or the instalation is the problem. I can print from Open Office, command line, etc. just fine. GGV not at all. Print job shows up when I do an 'lpq' but it never prints or comes out of the queue.

Hmm... I've been having problems too. NOTHING will print in RH 8.0, yet is worked perfectly in 7.2. I have the drivers set up the same was I did in 7.2. and I'm too tired to type anymore, so hopefully that's all you'll want.

I've got the same problem with printing from GGV. Something small appears in the print queue but nothing gets output. This is from a default installation of RH8.

The problem with Evolution crashing when you try to print HTML email has been fixed by a recent update I think. Go and download the latest version using Red Carpet. It's not related to the GGV problem.

http://www.ximian.com/products/redcarpet/

The only way I can print PDFs at the moment is by opening them in XPDF, using the print icon to output the file as PostScript, and then sending the PS file to the printer using

lpr /path/to/file.ps

Perhaps the GGV problem will be fixed in RH9.
