Printing from XP to LINUX

Ok.. I have Mandrake installed with printer attached.. I have had this up and working for awhile now.. It seems like I always have to do some odd combination of logging out, restarting loggging back in to get the printing to work across the network.. I don't understand this.. Once I getting it to print everything is fine for awhile.. Then things will take this vicous cycle.. So.. My question.. What can I do better?? Which PC booting up first is important, or is it??

Ok.. Lets say linux is booted, then XP.. Everything is working fine.. Then everything stops working. Do I just reboot windows? Or does that 1 year uptime on my linux machine just go to 3 days..
