Printing from Adobe reader and KPDF
 

I am using Kubuntu with and Epson 780 Stylus Photo Printer.

I'm trying to print a pdf, In KPDF I can print but it "shrinks" the document to about half the size of the paper. Is there a way to expand the document to fit the page?

I installed adobe reader 7.0, because I know it can expand the document. However, when I try to print I don't get the print manager. A print dialog box opens with options of Printer Command or File. Does anyone know what command I need to enter?

Shame on Adobe for having such retarded printing support in the Linux version of Acroread!!! Has anyone called them to ask about this??

I'm having the exact same problem attempting to print with my Epson Stylus CX5400, using Kubuntu Edgy. It shrinks the pdf image to about half size.

On my system Adobe reader automatically recognised my printer without any problems. After some exploration I found that the command it is using is "/usr/bin/lpr". If it's asking for a printer command to use it might be worth a try putting this one in.

I think you've gone somewhat overboard by saying that just because one user has had a minor problem with it then it's not a "good" product and is "retarded".

It's interesting that you didn't extend the same "shame" to the developers of KPDF for releasing a "retarded" program that shrinks pages. You also didn't consider that the problem this particular user is having might be down to an issue with the operating system, and bestow "shame" on the developers of that system for releasing a "retarded" operating system that Adober Reader can't correctly autoconfigure itself on.

Adobe Reader's print dialog box has an option to "expand small pages to paper size". I never did find a way to do this in KPDF or XPDF.

This is what finally worked for me.

Install Adobe Reader and open document

select print. In the printer dialog box select expand small pages to paper size and type kprinter for the printer command and click on OK.

This should open the kprinter dialog box which should show your printer and allow you to print full size.

I used to use Acrobat, along with the whole Adobe Suite, religiously at my previous job, i'm pretty sure you hit the nail on the head with that one.

That shoule work, but it's a rather inelegant workaround. Using "kprinter" means thet every time you print a document you will have to go through two different print dialogs (Adobe's own and then the KDE one) before you can print.

If you give Adobe Reader the corrrect print command (on my system thatwas "/usr/bin/lpr") then you will only need to go through the print dialog once for each document.
