Printer/Scanner Problems

ok, this is twisted.

i'm dual booting XP and Mandrake Linux 9.1

I have a scanner attached to this computer, and a printer attached to my fiancee's computer which runs XP. Samba is able to browse her shared folders and detect the printer, which is a HP Deskjet 960C. I can print to it if i'm running XP, but not if im in Linux. I have the drivers all installed, running CUPS. but it still won't print. i don't get an error message or anything... just no printout.

scanner is a HP Scanjet 5300C. xsane can detect it... but when i decide to preview, or scan, it starts the scanner going, but the light doesn't move - it stays on, and still. i'll cancel it, and rescan, and the program always freezes. after i relogin, i open xsane up again and it tells me no device is detected. it's connected via usb.

if you need more info, please ask me what info you need and i'll put it up.

thanks in advance!
