Printer Problems

Hi!

I am tryhing to help a friend out with installing a printer. They installed the printer driver but Fedora does not see the printer.

He installed the driver.

Now with out the driver would linux recognize the printer?

OS: Fedora 11 x84_64
Printer: canon lbp2900
Driver installed: cndrvcups-capt-1.80-1.i386.rpm

when I run
Code:
lbstat -t
I get
Quote:
scheduler is running
system default destination: LBP2900
device for LBP2900: usb://Canon/LBP2900
LBP2900 accepting requests since Tue 06 Oct 2009 11:54:56 PM AST
printer LBP2900 now printing LBP2900-0. enabled since Tue 06 Oct 2009 11:54:56 PM AST
When going to http://localhost:631
I go to add the printer and it isn't there?

Any Ideas

out of curiosity, how the printer is connected to computer ? via network or usb?
also, print the following :
lsusb | grep -i printer
dmesg | grep -i printer
