printer problem, server error, service unavaible?

Very new to linux, just invested in fedora core 1.

Having problems with my printers, lexmark x73 and a epson photo 900 both usb conections

Both printers seem to be set up, using gimp-print and cups. But everytime I try to do a test page, nothing happens. Looked at the log, this suggest no errors. If I check printer ques print jobs shows up.

The only other message I get, is sometimes a error box shows, saying that lpr. unable to print file. Server.error. service -unavaible.

Can anyone tel me whats happening and how do I go about solving it?

Here are some resources that may be of use:

http://localhost:631/admin
I personally like the web-based interface to CUPS.
I would like to know what device is assigned to each printer, which is available from here.

http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...um=Lexmark-X73
The Linux Printing website's pages on your two printers.

I trying to configure my hp deskjet 3322(it has a USB connection), I'm running Fedora Core1 and I've been getting the message when I use the lp
command : lp -d foo1 -o PageSize=Letter /etc/motd
"unable to print file: server- error -service unavailable"
when I restart the init.d file with /etc/init.d/cups restart
I get
Stopping cups: FAILED
Starting cups ok
and I'm not able to pull up localhost: 631 in my browser(Mozilla) I get either
"the connnection was refused" or
"The connection timed out"

HELP
