I'm new to this Linux thing, and have figured out a lot of stuff. I have the basic ideas behind RPM's makefiles and some basic shell programming.
The thing I CANNOT figure out is how on God's green earth to get my printer to work! I've read linuxprinting.org, but I wound up being more confused than I was helped. foomatic? CUPS? PPD's? I'm so lost! Can someone help me out?
I read from linuxprinting.org/pipermail/hp-list/2005q/006542.html that recommended driver is hpijs 2.1.1 for printing and HPLIP 0.9.1 for scanning. I googled hpijs 2.1.1 and the only thing I could find was something for Mandrake, and even when I get that, I have NO idea what to do.
Originally posted by barghota you can use the tool system-config-printer-gui, i used it (redhat-config-printer-gui) under RHEL and it worked
I got no joy with the syste-config-printer-gui. PhotoSmart 2610 wasn't listed, so I tried 2600, but it's still not printing, and not recognizing the device on /dev/lp1.

try # usbview which displays information on USB devices, thenk check if Fedora detected ur printer, then relocate it in system-config-printer-gui with the new device instead of /dev/lp1.

Hope this will work
This gives me:
Code:
[root@localhost jgrindal]# usbview
bash: usbview: command not found
I have an HP PhotoSmart 2610, and I only have drivers for the PhotoSmart 2600. I selected the printer that I had installed (the 2600) and hit "Edit," and got an error. I started the gui up again and tried to test it, and got a popup error message. Here is a screenshot of both: http://www.inflectus.com/Screenshot.png
