How do you expect someone to help you if you do not give information about your problem?
How're you trying to connect to the internet? dhcp? adsl perhaps? All the files (or almost) in /etc needs root. |
no no, all i want is to edit a file, my home work says the driver is installed, i just need to adjust the settings.
so how do i edit /etc/... |

the best way to get root permission is type:
su in a terminal (console). then your root password. you can use vi or a similar program to edit the file. (you can also start a gui program by typing the command as well) if you don't understand this you need to search for some basics tutorial. (www.linux.org has one). the commands (especially in vi) can be non-intuitive at first. ... uh oh, it's homework? |
cheers bud?
am i such a weapon? |
aah, i got ya, so its back to the command line, is that the usual way on linux? if it is tis ok as i was a happy dos user, but do you know where i can find a basic command reference?

Maybe this might help. Or go to www.google.com/linux and enter "commands", lots of references. |
