Preventing the flood of advertisements and cookies

Greetings Everyone,

I have been spoiled by the Kerio firewall that I used on Windows XP to block out Internet advertising and pop up ads.

Does Linux have programs or settings available to stop the onslaught of Internet Advertisements?

I am getting headaches!

Firefox has an ad blocking extension

Mozilla Firefox already has fantastic popup blocking, especially the newest version (1.5). There is also an extension called NoScript that allows you to only allow certain sites to execute JavaScript code.

Konqueror has an option in Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Java & JavaScript -> JavaScript tab -> "open new windows". Setting this to "smart" will let Konqueror figure out for itself which popups are ads and block them automatically, "ask" will ask you on a case-by-case basis if you would like to open the popup, "Allow" will allow all popups, and "Deny" will deny them all.

I'm sure there are methods for other browsers, but theses are the only two I use.
