pre load Install problems with Mandrake 7.2


hi.. i am new to linux and i was hoping to try it out on my old comp
(pentium II - 333 mhz - 192mb ram - 5.1gb hard drive) i have a cd of mandrake 7.2 (i don't want to download 9.2 yet cos im on dialup and im only trying linux....) well here's the problem...

i boot from the linux cd and i push enter... it does everything with the ramdisk and the hard drive but then it get up to cd itialization and then the cursor block move to the bottom of the screen (black part like dos) and i can enter anything with my keyboard.... i don't kno what to o any help is appreciated cos i really wanna try linux

I would really suggest you get a helpful friend to send you a live CD, Knoppix and Mepis are both excellent and would work on your PCs specs. Using a 2 year old distro like 7.2 won't really tell you that much anyway. If you are in the UK, I could send you several.

ok thnx.. well i live in Australia but i will try getting a newer distro... but yeah at the moment i just wanna see how mandrake 7.2 is while i have cos it mite be a while till i can get a newer distro

If you want to persevere with 7.2, I seem to remember that hitting F1 right at the start instead of Enter will give you more install options. Try that, and see which options you can try.
