PPPOE connection Timed Out--

HI i have downloaded the rp-pppoe utility and installed for PPPOE connection.

As per the instruction given with the utility i followed that .i have given pppoe-setup and given all the parameters required like service name , username ,password,firewall as none ,dsn as server an all the option .
finally i got the message as congratulation you have successfully setup the pppoe connection.you can use pppoe-start and pppoe-status .but

while using the command pppoe-connect getting the message as

/usr/sbin/pppd:/etc/ppp/plugins/rp-pppoe.so:cannot open shared object file:such file or directory
/usr/sbin/pppd:couldnt load plugin /etc/ppp/plugins/rp-pppoe.so

and while using pppoe-start getting a message as
...............TIMED OUT
/usr/sbin/pppoe-start: line 193: 4672 terminated $CONNECT "$@" > /dev/null 2>&1

now i think i am very close to connect my linux machine to internet.please tell the solution for this..

NOTE--I HAVE INTERNET CABLE CONNECTING TO MY ETHERNET CARD COMING DIRECTLY FROM MY ISP.ONE END CONNECTS TO MY NIC THROUGH RJ45 AND OTHER END CONNECTS TO THE ISP SWITCH WHICH IS COMMON FOR MY BUILDING SETUP BY ISP.

..which tells you why you're getting it, and how to fix it. Did you try to look this up? Also, in your other thread (where you ALSO posted the same question/duplicated this thread), you were asked several questions which you didn't answer, and given several options, which you didn't address. If you'd like solutions/help from the community, then you need to answer questions, and participate.

Once again:

• Unless you're PAYING for RedHat support, don't use RedHat Enterprise Linux
• If you ARE paying, then CALL REDHAT
• If you're using RHEL6 BETA...remove it and load the released version.
• Again, a SOHO switch/router is a cheap, more secure solution, which is MUCH easier to implement.

Answer to your questions is --
As you know that i am newbie to linux so i am not aware of linux as like you. i want get hands on linux and then i will definately pay to linux.sorry but i cant afford linux paid version on this little knowledge

First, do you not pay attention to what people are telling you??? Not knowing is no excuse for not answering a question, let alone not answering SEVERAL direct questions, or even acknowledging that people have given you advice.

• You were asked if you were still using RHEL6 Beta
• You were asked if you were trying to dial over a voice network
• You were asked if your DSL modem was given to you by your ISP
• You were asked if your DSL modem was also a router

..but you answered none of those questions, and still haven't. None of those questions need ANY Linux knowledge.

Second, AGAIN, why don't you use CentOS, Ubuntu, Mint, openSUSE, etc....all versions that are TOTALLY FREE, including updates/patches/bugfixes/etc., which you WON'T get with RedHat Enterprise UNLESS YOU PAY? And again, those distros will probably support DSL connections, WiFi, and other consumer grade hardware right off the bat. Again, RHEL is designed for SERVERS, not home systems, and doesn't typically support items that aren't used IN servers.

Third...AGAIN...a SOHO switch/router is about $49, and will support ANYTHING you plug into it, no DSL config needed on the computer end, AND it will make your system a bit safer, than plugging directly into a DSL connection.

Ok i am agree with you!!!i will switch to centos or ubumtu or mint but can you suggest me which one is best suited for a following hardware --

PROCESSOR-INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE CPU 2.70 GHZ
RAM--2GB
SOUND --VIA HIGH DEFINATION AUDIO
DISPLAY--INTEL G41 EXPRESS CHIPSET
NETWORK-NameAtheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller

But the os should come with all the drivers installed along with codec also or it should at least come with network drivers installed .so that i can connect to internet and can download all updates.

No, but again, all of them are FREE, and you can download and try them all, and see which one YOU like the best.

And AGAIN, you are still not answering the questions about your DSL modem, how you're connecting, etc. As you've been told in your other thread, those things make a difference in how you set things up. Again, a cheap SOHO router will do what you're needing, without having to do ANY configuration on the PC at all, for ANY OS. Changing your OS may (or may not) make the problem go away, but as you're not providing relevant information, there's not much else anyone here can do for you. You've been given advice in this thread, and in your other.

I dont have any modem.i am simply connected to a LAN cable and that comes from the ISP.i asked ISP about the device.he told me that there is common switch for all subscibers in my building.

Okay how do you connect to internet using the same line in windows then? You could ask for support for windows from your ISP. Once we know how your internet connection works, we can start off with Linux configuration.
Till then, why dont you take efforts to answer previously asked questions. If you dont take efforts to answer the question, it would be difficult to get solutions as well.
I personally like Ubuntu and Mint to be safer for newbies. But this is again MY PERSONAL preference. You might want to check for your liking yourself. And if you are comfortable with Red Hat, then Fedora and CentOS could give you the similar look and feel and at home feeling.

ok i am connected to PPPOE because when i doe pppoe-start it says that connected .even when i am doing pppoe-status its giving me up and running but when i am trying to open any webpage it gives me unable to connect please check your network connection.i also tried to ping google but it was giving host unreachable .

what should i do now???

What you've posted doesn't make sense. If you have an ISP, you connect to THEM...if you have a shared network point, then you have to connect through THAT. So are you connecting via your building's shared connection, or through your ISP? If you've got a connection established, you also need to configure your network so that things are routed correctly, you get a DNS server, IP address, etc.

You need to get all that information from your ISP or provider. How you configure it depends on your version/distro of Linux.

And once again...a cheap SOHO router takes care of ALL of that....

I am still unable to understand your network. And if you are seriously wanting to get help here, answer the questions first.
And if you are connected but can not get to internet, check your DNS settings. Also check your TCP settings as well.
