ppp problem

This is my first thread and would appreciate some help.

I am running FC2 and am having trouble connecting to the internet because my ppp0 connection will not activate. I have Verizon DSL and am using a Linksys 802.11g router. My FC2 computer is connected to the router (wired) - i'm still old school - but will not connect to the internet. Eth0 is up and running using a static ip. How can I get my ppp0 to come up? Also, how can I change the tx speed on my eth0 currently set at 0?

ppp0 interface is up after you run pppd (with parameters usually; it can also read them from a configuration file). How do you run pppd? Remove username and password from the command, but write where they are.
