PostgreSQL question
 

Ok i am running slack and was told this would be a great program to lean sql well i use sql at my school and wanted to do it at home as well. Sooo.. installed the program but i cant figure out how to run it. Also if anyone uses it is this program any good?

it´s a great database. there´s a very good book by momjan or similar about sql and postgresql, too. worth reading. how did u install it? did u put it to /home/... ? there´s a command to invoke postmaster i no more remember exactly. isn´t there an instruction how to install and start shipping with the download?

i just did ./configure make then make install. Why is there away to make it go into home?

sorry i couldn´t write sooner.
i was wrong. it´s installed to /usr/.. then u can run 'initdb' to create a local 'instance' of the template db. as far as i remember u have to type sth. like postgresql initdb using a user bash. then 'postmaster' to start the server. i hope someoneelse knows more exactly. all i remember for sure is that root bash don´t work at all
