port question
i am installing red hat and by default opens this port...
631/tcp open ipp does anyone can said to me how i can close this port? |
To close this port you could either stop the process which has opened the port, or you could firewall the port. I think stopping the process is probably the idea, as you probably do not need the Internet Printing Protocol. So, I would look to either kill or remove that process. Voila, fixed.
Hope that helps, p.s. 'ps ax' and 'kill' would be useful in this situation. J.J.E. |
i can't find any proccess with ipp name

This port is connected to the CUPS printer system. When you point your webbrowser to http://localhost:631, you will see the CUPS setup pages. Disabling CUPS should close the port ... and disable printing (if you were using it).

Oops, in my system it is connected to CUPS, but perhaps you've got another printing system listening to the same port...
