pop3 connection problem

I have been trying to connect to my pop3 account with thunderbird .8, but I just get a promt stating connection refused. My provided told me to try telnet, and I did and I recieved the same error. It does this with all pop3 accounts. I have no idea as to why it won't work. Is there something I'm forgetting?

Hello Shtoeta,

Core 1 is a bit back for me, but I cannot remember any problems accessing POP accounts, can you give some more info.

With kind regards,

Richard

Three questions...

1) Do they have a web mail interface? If so, have you experienced problems with it?

2) Do you use Thunderbird .8 to connect with other mail servers?

3) Have you been able to successfully telnet to other devices?

The reason for asking these questions is to narrow the problem down to the party at fault, perhaps they have a really bad mail server that drops often or perhaps your firewall settings are denying all POP3 and Telnet traffic.

Actually, I just switched over to core 2 a few weeks ago. Here are my exact error messages.

In terminal
telnet mail.mybesthost.com 110
Trying 70.84.255.99...
telnet: connect to address 70.84.255.99: Connection refused

and in thunderbird .9

Could not connect to server mail.mybesthost.com; the connection was refused.

I've also tried it with my gmail account and get the same errors with the corresponding ip addresses. I don't know why it's giving me the errors.

!) The webmail works fine.

2) I use thunderbird .9. Well, if I could connect to anything I would. It will not connect to any servers

3) No.

Check your firewall settings and make sure POP3 traffic isn't being denied.

According my security settings, telnet is under trusted services., but that's all I know how to find. I just checked the security level under system settings.
