pop and imap protocols

Hello every one..

Why we use them???? What is the function???

Thanks..

In the simplest terms pop downloads your mail onto the client PC and imap leaves it on the server

So if you want to view your email when not connected to the internet then you want pop. If you want a consistant view of your mail using multiple email clients on different computers then imap is your friend. In my view imap is the way forward.
