Poor Video Performance
 

I am having REALLY poor 3-D video performance when I am in Linux. Games like Unreal Tournament (and even Tux Racer) are running so slow they aren't even playable, when in windows they run perfectly. The red-hat install seemed to recognize that I had a geforce2, but the performance is more like onboard 2mb video with a 386.

Just a quick note:
When you first install Windows, what do you do? You pop in the NVidia CD and update the drivers from the Windows default ones, don't you? The very same thing happens in Linux, in this case. Go over to nvidia.com and download the very latest nvidia geforce drivers for Linux. Get the .tar.gz files because they are often the easiest to install. And don't forget to read the documation (that's also available from that site) very, very thorougly.

I would get the RPMs for Redhat 7.3 from the nvidia site, rather than the '.tar.gz' files.

I have never had any trouble installing from the RPMs. Why do you prefer the 'tar.gz' files Thymox?

Simply because of RedHats update facility. If you download the RPMs that have been built specifically for RH7.3s default kernel, and you use RH's update facility and it updates your kernel, the NVidia drivers will no longer work. Reinstalling them from the RPM files you originally downloaded will also not work. However, using the .tar.gz files, you can make your own (and it is not hard at all) drivers regardless of kernel version, so you can use RH's update facility freely.
