Poor text display - Anti- Alias?
I have been having some very poor text quality in Mandrake 8.0. It does not matter which X window I use ( the command line text is, of course, fine) I have tried changing font's to just about everything. The best way I can describe the way the text looks is non-anti-aliased. For anyone who is used to graphic editing in windows, this should make sense. I was wondering if there was a switch in Linux, or if it was something altogether different ie. video card, ect.
I am using a ATI Radeon 64 DDR. Thanks friends. Jeffrey. |
I have run into this a few times with my own machines. I am unsure what causes this but have you tried changing the display settings size, or the refresh rates.
I had one machine it did this too with one distro, I think it was Redhat, then I installed Slackware and had no problems after the install of it. Maybe someone else has some more detailed answers. |
I had the same problems when I first installed Mandrake 8.0. Turning on anti-aliasing, reducing the size of some fonts and throwing most of them away did the job (I'm using windows fonts instead).
good luck. kansein |
Note: if your ATI card if identified as a Mach64 chip then you will not get antialiasing unless you upgrade to XFree86-4.1 or better.
all the best, Robert_L |
