Exclamation Problems with Xdrake (mandrake linux 8.1)

I am having problems when it boots because it displays a messsege saying: device (X) respawing too fast : disabled for 5 min.

I dont now what that is but it wont take me to the desktop. If the problem is Xdrake then how can i make mandrake boot to the desktp instead of the promt or whatever it is.

see if you can use ctrl_alt_F2 to get to a terminal. Logon as root,

init to level three...

init 3

then run Xconfigurator, and also check the log files for errors
