Free hosting! ha ha ha, this board is free to all, no need to barter for help buddy.
Open up a mixer (In KDE open up kmix by going to K---Run and typing kmix) and make sure your volume is up for one. Also, you may want to post the output of lsmod. To do this open a term and type LSMOD in lower case. To copy from a terminal highlight the part you want, then use the middle button (or if only 2 buttons both at the same time) to paste. And let us know what soundcard you've got too. |
I've always had to turn up the sound via kmix with new installs.

It might be a good idea to check your sound card is properly supported first by typing
sndconfig at a terminal. The Esound (esd) support in redhat 7.3 for example is flakey if you have some intel chipsets (I think the linux people must have lost a chunk of code somewhere(!)). sndconfig plays a sample. If it sounds garbled you might be out of luck. But before you give up, try: esd -r 48000 and esd -d /dev/dsp just to see if it does something. Last thing, configure your desktop to autorun inserted CDs. Use gmix by typing: gmix to jack the sound levels up (for PCI and master volume) and see if you can hear anything. Bert p.s. will you host my porn server database then? (*joke*) |
ok well i typed LSMOD, it says file not found or something, i typed sndconfig it says file not found... i can get sound if i do the following:
delete the 'socket' file in tmp/.esd/ and then do esd -trust in term.. but it stops after a few hours me thinks... ANY ideas? |
ok um i just turned on xmms and now i have sound, ???????????, and umm where else can i teste my sound?
|
it sounds garbled kinda, it sounds choppy but it wasnt always choppy i had it fixed good before.
|
ok also i had some one tell me to try ARTSD and now i think i have THAT turned on
|
ok wait i think it worked again, i typed ESD and i heard the sound clearly *opens xmms* sounds clear as hell now! !??!?!?!? wtf i think my pc is jacked guys!
|
Well I am glad you got it working, just for future note, that LSMOD is supposed to be lowercase, so lsmod would be the command. And some distros don't come with sndconfig installed, so you may want to search your CDROM for it.
