Yes there is a way, but you will need to mount the share first, with either "smbmount" or "mount -t cifs".
For simplicity you would probably want to add that to fstab too.
Distribution: OpenSuse 12.1, Ubuntu 12.04, Kubuntu 12.04, SlackWare 13.37, FreeBSD 8.2, Windows Xp

what is the standar NFS? Pardon my ignorance. I just want to open the files from my desktop in the living room while I am with the laptop in the garage.
