Unhappy Please, KILL ME... debian laptop wireless problems :'(

I'm going to start off by saying, I am a .

I've been wanting to install debian on my laptop for a week and nothing seems to be going right at all.

I want to get my wireless internet working first so I can get my apt-get working first.

I've been following the instructions given here:
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...p/Installation

So far I've installed ndiswrapper and the 64-bit broadcom drivers.

So when I type
Code:
ndiswrapper -l
I get:

Quote:
Installed ndis drivers:
netbc564 driver present, hardware present
OK cool.

But when I try to load the module with
Code:
modprobe ndiswrapper
I get:

Quote:
ndiswrapper: version magic '2.6.8-11-amd64-k8 gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.8-11-amd64-k8 gcc-3.4
FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper (/lib/modules/2.6.8-11-amd64-k8/misc/ndiswrapper.ko): Invalid module format
I've already installed gcc-3.4.

Can anyone help me make sense of this? I really do want to be a permanent linux user, but this is just really driving me nuts.

Yeah. It means your kernel was compiled with gcc-3.3, and the module with gcc-3.4. Both need to be compiled with the same compiler version.

Thank you for the super quick reply. Could you point me in the right direction of how to go about doing that?

Are you using only debian stuff, or did you compile your own for any? If using debian packages, try upgrading to both the latest kernel and ndiswrapper. If using your own, try rebuilding both of them with the same compiler.

I'm using debian stuff. I upgraded to the latest kernel and ndiswrapper still to no avail. I still get the same error.

What I don't know how to do is compile ndiswrapper with gcc-3.4. I've googled and forum searched forever for an answer, but I've hit deadends.
