What exactly does Konqueror crash on? You might be able to fix it, but I think Konqueror is not a very good web browser, and you should probably just use Firefox.

Yep, I'd install Firefox. BTW, why use an old release of SuSE?

Web messengers and programs like it mostly need Internetexplorer with some kind of extention and konqueror just does not heave these extentions/plugins Fire fox is better in this but the best is just get CrossOver wine and use Iexplore i think.

Some real help ;-)

This doesn't sound like a problem with konqueror; it seems like KDE has been installed improperly.

If you haven't done so already, it is always good idea to log off/log back on after updating KDE.

1)
If it is a problem with konqueror itself, this will tell us what is going wrong:
Open konsole. Type:
konqueror

..then press enter. Konqueror will open. Browse the internet until it crashes. Inside konsole will be a log of all the errors that happened. Paste them here.

It would also help to know exactly which websites konqueror is crashing on.

2)
It is much more likely that you just have to reinstall KDE. To do this, open yast, then under software, choose Software Management. Search for kdebase3. Right click on kdebase3, and choose update. Finally, click accept.

System Update, located under software in yast is another option you may want to explore.

Or, as another poster suggested, upgrade to SuSE 10. KDE 3.1 is somewhat outdated. Upgrading will certainly fix your problems
OpenSuse has a 10.0 "evaluation version" available for free. (It won't expire or anything)

Firefox is included in knoppix. I don't have a copy myself, but it's definitely there somewhere. At worst you'll have to type "firefox" into a console..

I think thats shoking, I use Konqueror for all may browsing and it has worked on ever site! Firefox on linux doesn't support half of what Konqueror does

Mozilla?

I am running Suse 9.2, Konq is apparently just a skin for the mozilla browser. If you uninstall mozilla, it will kill konq. Maybe there is a problem in the parts of Mozilla that are shared. Have you tried to update Mozilla? Maybe your Konq is updated past the supporting Mozilla? You might give that a try, and let us know what happens.

I use both firefox and konqueror, and if I prefere firefox for its loock, I must say at konqueror have a much better compatibility with non-conformant sites as those developped with windows softwares.

You can even change the identification of konqueror in case a site will not accept you with the default. Have you try it? (Tools -> Change navigator Identification)

I believe at updating kde is a good thing to do. I use kde 3.5 on SuSE 9.3, and a long recurent problem of kde becoming very slow after a while is gone. I have upgraded it with apt http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/
I will not install suse 10 because I have never succes to do an upgrade from suse x.m to suse (x+1).n without doing a fresh install, and I have to much work in progress to do that now.

Konqueror Crashes

In my own use of Linux and KDE on several distro's Konqueror has crashed from time to time in every version. Even once when I tried to get help!
Use something else!
