please help.. unable to connect to mysql on linux


Hi,

I am new to linux.

I have installed Debian on a machine and installed mysql on the same machine.

I am able to ping to that machine from my PC

but when I try to connect to mysql using Navicat I get 2003 error: can't connect to mysql server.

what can I do?

You have to start the MySQL server before you can connect to it. See Section 3.1 of the MySQL Reference Manual (or click on Tutorial if viewing the PDF version of the manual) to get to Section 3.1. It has instruction on how to start the server.

but when i use mysql admin on the linux server i can see server status [Running]

Hi,

I checked the configuration and did few changes but now I am getting a different error:

1045 - Access denied for user "root@192.168.1.9" using password: YES

I am sure about the password because I am able to login to it on the server itself which has the IP 192.168.1.1 but I am unable to login from my PC which has the IP 192.168.1.9


Kindly help..
