Is this a new installation?
Or did you have a working system and just started to get this error?
When you press the Esc key, you should see some output on the screen. It might help if you posted at least the last few lines.
Do you have any other operating system on the computer?

When you get the press Esc for verbose and you hit the key, can you see information scrolling down the screen?
Did you make any hardware/software changes just prior to this happening?

First thing you should do is to run a livecd and bakup you data from the computer because you may delete files/partitions while attempting to correct the problem.

Press ESC key for verbose mode and see what messages are there indicating problem. Does mandriva livecd work perfectly? What is your hard disk structure (partitions)? Run 'gparted' from livecd and see if there is any problem in any partitions. Try installing another distro (preferably ubuntu) on a separately created partition.
