Please help, sound probs with skype

Hi everyone, I have 3 problems that could be linked (1) no mic in skype, i can hear but the other person cannot,i have tested with echo123
and no sound with mic (2) in gnome i have broken links with lsmod.modutils and some others that link to that so i changed to KDE the same thing but it said they do not exsist (3) mime type recognition,because all the files with problems are mime types,these probs could be linked or not i do not know, i have ubuntu 7.04 and latest skype, thanks guys.

what sound system are you using?
are you using alsa or oss?

if you use alsa, then are you aware of the programs alsamixer and alsaconf?
they might help you

are there any error msgs at startup of skype? anything about "/dev/dsp?" or "/dev/mixer"?

Maybe you can specify your problem a bit more
