please help pppd and slackware

Why will nobody help me?

I have the evil sagem fast 800 e2t

with little or no help i got it to sync with eagle usb driver by swapping bnms with ones from a tiscali cd.

I will not connect now. Answer mee!!! SOmeone has said its down to not having pppd! Wtf is this and how do i install it??? I cannot find an rpm r anything??????

Mandrake is total pants cus it wont even work with my bog standard mouse ps2. So thats out of the question.

I have no idea how to get pppd for slackware.

This is doing my head in 3 weeks to install a modem f**k this. No wonder people use windows it took all of 3 minutes to get my connection up and going in xp. Why cant I do the same with linux?

If you installed the networking package for slack you have already got pppd on your system. If you set up kppp (for example) in KDE it will act as a front end for pppd. I believe Gnome has another one (maybe gppp ?).

If you are feeling brave you can use pppsetup to setup your net connection (and ppp-go/ppp-stop to run it). Have a look in /usr/sbin ... you should see pppd and a few of the associated utils there.

But take a few breaths because this may not be the end of your journey with the modem. Hardware modems that connect to serial ports are a breeze, the others are a game of chance.

lol!!

Its just that this sagem is supposdly supposed under linux!! Sagems own driver is utter pants!!!!! So off I wen tot find the eagle driver........

Installed that and finally after two weeks managed to get the modem to sync, wooooofrickinhooo!!

It just refuses to connect. errors when i run eagleconfig..

I just want to know why you cant say how to do something like unbder windows? I just dont get it ?????? Other people say they got this modem working with same isp and same version of slack? It makes no sense

I have the same modem as you, i got it when i got tiscali broadband and i couldnt get on the net for a long time in linux until i downlaoded Mandrake 10.1 from the net and installed it. It installed the drivers automatically and all i did was set up the connection. I think mandrake is great

Gazza487 12-24-2004 07:18 AM

Thats great but you obviously downloaded the version of mdk that you have to pay for!! The free one does not have the drivers as standard afaik

Ace2005 12-26-2004 08:25 PM

Its the free version from mandrakesoft - 3cd's

Right so this thing saying download on my start menu thing would be from the power pack thing right.... i think not!!! I got it from the mandrake site

I would never get an illegal commercial version of any open source software of any kind, and why would i want to, the download of linux 10.1 is 3 CD's and i just don't have the time to download however many more. But on the other hand copying Microsoft, now thats fair game :)

Ace2005 12-26-2004 08:28 PM

I got it from here by the way and if its a fake then mandrake needs to check what their mirriors are doing

ftp://193.195.63.7/package/mandrakel...iso/10.1/i586/

Someone back me up on this one

Ace2005 12-26-2004 08:54 PM

Ok i found the exact link on the mandrake site, just to prove it to you.

Go to the place where all the mandrake mirriors are listed
http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/ftp.php3

Click on the lower now button so you dont have to register and i used the third one down in the United Kingdom catagory.

heres the link
ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/man.../iso/10.1/i586 (London)

Happy now :)

Afaik = As far as I know.

not-- a fake. As in fraudulent/ not real etc.

calm.....deep breaths....:)

Gazza good luck.

Gazza487 12-27-2004 03:42 AM

Lol I fixed the modem problem and had it up and running on slack long ago. I used the original sagem driver spliced together with new .bnm files. I documented it all on another thread, can't remember the title, but it did work hehe

I stand corrected on the mandrake issue! Thats what I love about Slack lol it's simple none of this registering for premium content

Ace2005 12-27-2004 08:05 AM

I think I'll try that as well, haven't tried slackware yet.

I get a little competitive sometimes and i wont stop till i prove my point

Gazza487 12-27-2004 08:54 AM

Arguing with yourself doesn't work though. As I always knew it commercial drivers werent included with mandrake as standard. You had to pay for the pro edition. I am going back a while though hehehe

Yeah I'd be happy to send you the driver i bodged together if you wish to try it

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=178634

They mention the eagle driver over and over but I could never get it working

Ace2005 12-27-2004 09:54 AM

How am i argueing with myself?

It is the free one, go to the site download it and then install it, it will work.

You only need the first disk to test it. First time, i downlaoded only the first disk and then after i installed mandrake from that disk with the modem plugged in while it was installing the modem's adsl light came on, then i went and got the rest of the disks and installed again.

All the disks are from that site
