PLEASE help: MySQL server problems through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2).
Hi all,
I am a novice hosting reseller and I woke this morning to find ALL the websites i'm hosting that require MySQL to run have suddenly gone down and showing variants of the below phrase:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
What has happened here? All sites have been installed using auto-installer Softaculous and have been running perfectly for a few months until now, its almost as if someone has turned off MySQL over night. I obviously have some very angry customers at the moment, could somebody please advise me on (a preferably simple way) how to turn it back on? Will their data be lost?
I'm panicking a fair bit here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hmm... should you really be reselling hosting space if you can't even google that error message, let alone fix it?? All that definitely means is that the mysql daemon is not listening. That probably means mysql is not running but why it's not running could be all manner of reasons. You sound like you just want someone to say "as root, run 'service mysql start'" which, seeing as you're atking other peoples money to know this simple stuff already... ouch...
are you sure you did not change anything? There was a recent mysql security vulnerability and patch: CVE-2012-2122. Does softaculous automatically install such security updates?
@ acid_kewpie - The answer is no I probably shouldnt be selling it, thing is I bought it as a package from ebay and was promised the earth but failed to deliver (as usual), and now I have a few customers and i'm not just going to leave them in limbo like others would. So theres no simple button to press and turn it back on? I'm out of my depth. :-/
@ Evo - i'll have a look at Softaculous homepage and see what they say as I definately haven't changed anything, everything was fine last night and a mess this morning.
