Post Please Help Me With A Basic Understanding Of Linux

Hello guys,
I am Sam from VA.
I am currently under a computer networks program and I need urgent help with understanding Linux (FROM SCRATCH!)
I recently found a job that would fit my profile apart from this MAJOR loophole in my skills.
I am hoping to get this Junior Networking job PRONTO!..
Would there be a "Linux for Dumbass.." such a course that I could possibly be aware of to bag me this opportunity...
Please do help...

Appreciate your help you guys..
-SAM.

There probably is a Linux for dumbass's but you are going to need more than that aren't you?

Google "Linux Administration" or similar searches, also check the Linux Professional Institute for recommended readings.

Depending on what distro is being used, probably Red Hat Enterprise Linux, I'd google the distro and see what books you can find on the individual distros.

Good luck.

No idea, since you don't really tell us where you're from. Without knowing that, how can we tell you of any courses that may be around you? Also, your post is confusing...you are "under a computer networks program", your job is at stake...but you found a job?? Not sure what you mean. And a networking job shouldn't require Linux from scratch knowledge.

And not to sound nasty...but not having the skills/requirements for a job is not a "loophole"...it means you're not qualified. No quickie class is going to give you the skills overnight to be able to do a job competently. If you've got a position now, keep it, and get the skills you need. Otherwise, I'd suggest looking for something that you DO have the skills for. Good luck

Moved to Linux-Newbie and retitled so it explains the thread.

Well, I'd start with http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz; for in-depth stuff www.linuxtopia.org.
As TB0ne implies, it's a non-trivial exercise, so don't try to fake it, just learn it at home, its free after all
