please help me. OS boot problem

I am probably stupid.
I installed redhat9 into my harddrive somewhere. After that, I have installed windowsXP. I remember when I partition my harddrive, I set them all as primary sections. I think there is something wrong with this. Now, I can only go into the windows section without chosing..

Should I edit the bootloader in windowsXP? something like:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition( ?? )\linux="Redhat 9.0"

How should I fix this problem so I can make choice from LILO booter?

Erm, dunno.

I do know that windows likes to be the first system installed. Then install the linux distro, but when it comes to the bootloader it needs to be put onto the first section of the harddisc so it see's whatever OS's you have installed - it would normally overwrite your windows bootloader with whatever you select at linux install or just default if you don't tell it which one you want. i.e. my mandrake defaults to lilo, and if I don't select differently kde. You have RH9, so the defaults would be grub and gnome.

It sounds very like when you installed the windows, it's overwritten the whichever linux bootloader you had installed.

With my mandrake disc's, I can put the first one in, boot it and press F1 when asked and select rescue. From there I can re-install the bootloader. you could try and see if you have a similar facility. Failing that, re-install the redhat over the top of the current RH, it should then offer the various bootloader options etc so you can get it dual booting properly.

regards

John
