Please help me install xmms-wma-1.0.4

Hi !

Please help me install xmms-wma-1.0.4. It's a plugin for xmms, making it play wma-files.

I'm new to Linux and not skilled in installing packages in the Terminal.

I understand, first I have to write make. Here is the output I get:
Code:

thort@thortsystem:~/Desktop/Codecs/xmms-wma-1.0.4$ make
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/thort/Desktop/Codecs/xmms-wma-1.0.4/ffmpeg-strip-wma'
gcc -Wall  -g -O3 -DHAVE_AV_CONFIG_H -I.. -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_GNU_SOURCE -c -o common.o common.c
make[1]: gcc: Command not found
make[1]: *** [common.o] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/thort/Desktop/Codecs/xmms-wma-1.0.4/ffmpeg-strip-wma'
gcc -c -o obj/xmms-wma.o -O2 -ffast-math -fomit-frame-pointer -DHAVE_AV_CONFIG_H -I.. -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_GNU_SOURCE -DX86 -I ffmpeg-strip-wma `xmms-config --cflags` xmms-wma.c
/bin/sh: gcc: command not found
make[1]: *** [obj/xmms-wma.o] Error 127
make: *** [all] Error 2

I see Command not found and Error. What does this text mean?

Could someone please help me understand this and help me get this plugin installed?

you haven't got gcc installed. install it.

Thanks acid_kewpie !

I installed gcc using Synaptic Package Manager.

Now I get a different output typing make. Still a lot of errors:
Code:

thort@thortsystem:~/Desktop/Codecs/xmms-wma-1.0.4$ make
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/thort/Desktop/Codecs/xmms-wma-1.0.4/ffmpeg-strip-wma'

gcc -o libwma.so obj/xmms-wma.o obj/iir.o `xmms-config --libs` -L ffmpeg-strip-wma -lffwma -shared
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lffwma
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[1]: *** [libwma.so] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

What am I to do now? How can I get this plugin installed?

thort 10-10-2005 01:38 PM

Hi again !

Because I wasn't able to install the plugin whith make and make install I downloaded the plugin as a rpm-package (xmms-wma-1.0.5-1.i386.rpm) from http://mcmcc.bat.ru/xmms-wma/?C=M;O=A

The rpm installation worked! Now I can play wma-files in XMMS. :)

My problem making make and make install work still exist, but this I will solve in due time. A newbie has much to learn.
