Please help me! Frustrated with Linux installation!!!!

Hi guys...

I'm having problems installing Linux Mint and Ubuntu on both of my computers.

The first one is a Toshiba Sattelite laptop a215-s4747 running Windows Vista 32 bit, 1g of ram, and AMD Turion 1.80, 64x2.

Second is an HP home media desktop running Vista 32 bits. 2 gigs of ram, AMD Athlon 3300+ and two hard drives, one sata and one IDE both 200gigs.

I'm a computer technician and I master windows.... but honestly I'm intrigue with this whole Open source programs and I love the whole concept so I'm willing to dump Windows and fully go to Linux. I'm a linux newbie but not new to linux, I use Linux puppy on a flash drive because Im a computer technician and the best way to access a hard drive that crashed or when a windows system is corrupt is linux puppy in my opinion. So I was introduced to Linux by using Linux puppy and I love it... I really do.

But I can't install Mint or Ubuntu in both of my computers and I have been trying for 2 weeks and literally my wife told me to stop messing with the computers so much or she will dump me lol...

I have tried everything from burning the ISO at the slowest speed to swiping and changing rams, to trying installing on different drives, I have reset the BIOS, downloaded the ISO from different sources, installed on safe mode, booting from cd first... well, you name it.
Still I cant get it to install and it's very frustrated because I'm exited to try Linux and dump Windows forever.

Can anyone help me please!!!! I will be glad to donate, or do whatever it takes for someone to help me, that's how bad I want to try Linux.

This is the error I get on both computers.

Did you try it with other distros ?
Mint is a fork of UBUNTU you see.

does the liveCD vs of each of those work on your hardware? not saying your hardware is bad, just asking if the liveCD will run on them.

Also it looks like you might just need to hit "enter" to get things started, or for that matter just type in the "help" is it asking you to do so you can read the options you have available to get the install started. just a guess.

And we assume that ubuntu or "other" will be "better" because they are more difficult to deal with??
The first time I got a "message" that I did not have permission to do XXX

Well guys, thanks for your responses. I'm gonna give up on Mint and Ubuntu. Right now i'm trying this opensuse 11.2 distro on my desktop and i'm loving it!!!! and in my laptop the only one that worked is Dreamlinux and I'm also loving it.. it is super dooper fast, good for all my multimedia.

Right now my next task is to set up a home network and making my hard drives discoverable... that's giving me a little bit of a headache but at least I am running on linux and I'm happy.... NO MORE DAMN VISTA!!!!! I'm just keeping my XP professional which by the way is the best damn OS I have ever tried in a third hard drive.

Anyways guys, thanks for your replies....

are you trying to connect Linux to Linux or Linux to Windows?

If Linux to Linux then you need to read up on NFS

If Linux to Windows then read up on SAMBA

hope that at least points you in the right direction. Glad you are enjoying Linux.
