Please Help!! and Fast!!! I am student!!!

Hi,
I am student and bought this new laptop due to my old laptop is broken and i have lots of work to do before end of this week.

I have bought this laptop and has preinstalled unbuntu. It has network adapter but it is not responding. I have tried different methods to resolve it but failed.

i have typed in terminal: lshw -C network and this shows
description: Ethernet controller
product: AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter
vendor: Atheros Communications Inc.
physical id: 0
bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0
version: 01
width: 64 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: bus_master cap_list
configuration: driver=ndiswrapper latency=0 module=ndiswrapper

i have installed ndiswrapper and managed to install the appropriate driver but i cant enable it. I have put the iwconfig, and this shows:
waqaz@ubuntu:~$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

pan0 no wireless extensions.

Now i have installed the wicd network manager.

still i cant enable the adapter....

Please help!!! asap

Thanks in advance....

I can imagine that everyone else on this site who *volunteers* their time has things that are important to them, too. Please do not post threads marked urgent, help needed fast. It's simply not urgent to us.

Please tell us exactly which wireless card you own. In general, ndiswrapper is the wrong way to go with Atheros cards. What OS/version are you using? We can't read your mind, and it's only a guess that you're using some version of Ubuntu. What is the output of "ifconfig"?

Yes, if config would be good. Assuming you didn't do so,

$sudo iwconfig eth0 up

You may have to define your ESSID then. Also, if the network is WPA protected sometimes things can get sticky with linux, or at least, I had some issues with that. But you would still have something show on iwconfig.

Waqas,
If you are in a bind for time and can't solve the problem, download some Live Linux CD's and complete your work with them if they work on your machine. Sometimes "workaround" is way MO' faster than solving a particular problem under time constraints.

Good luck, Michael

Mogrady, good call.

waqas87, you can probably use the cd you installed ubuntu with- should give you access to your hard drive files, and since you instaleld with it, probably internet access as well.
